Kata Tjuta Walpa Gorge tour Please don’t do this trip or any other that put you on one of the huge AAT coaches. Kata Tjuta is an amazing spectical, but this is not the way to do it and I will explain why. Firstly, you will spend way over 2 hours in a crowded bus and a fraction of the overall time on the ground at Kata Tjuta. I was separated from my special needs son the whole way there. It is a most unpleasant trip and you feel like cattle being transported, nothing more than credit card number. There is nothing personal about it and to be avoided at all costs. The walk up the Gorge takes approximately 15 minutes for a moderately fit individual and it wouldn’t be hard to do a return trip in 20-25 minutes. You are given an hour. You share the walk with hundreds of other tourists then shoved back in the bus to endure a repeat trip back. My advice is make a day of it and see more of this spectacular area. Trying to get a good experience in such a short period of time is simply impossible. We now cured and will also never do a large bus trip again, as it is completely impersonal. Find a small operator where you can experience it in a more personal way. You also share this trip with a full day group and to have it regularly highlighted the benefits they get that you don’t. Leaving you with the additional impression that you are second class citizens. On the positive side, the tour guide was a very nice person and very helpful. She made sure that my son and I were able to sit together on the way back. When you are shopping for a trip, it is worth knowing that all tour guides have to be accredited to operate within the national park, so all the tour groups large and small will give you the same information. Tours are big business in this area, and they’re shooting fish in a bucket.
